Five Couples Vacation Tips for Easy, Fun Traveling

By | August 11, 2011

As care free as the idea of traveling sounds, it is not always so easy. There are a lot of logistics involved, a lot of planning, and a lot of weariness after you have been sitting in a plane, train, or automobile for hours at a time. In short, traveling can really wear you out.

This isn’t so terrible if you’re traveling alone and free to indulge your desire to plunk down in a hotel bed and get up whenever you please. But if you’re traveling as a couple, coordinating your road-weariness can seem like a chore rather than a vacation.

You want to enjoy your vacation. That’s why it’s called a vacation!

What’s a couple to do? Follow these quick five tips for easy and fun traveling specifically aimed at jet-setting couples.

Tip #1: Keep travel plans simple whenever possible. It’s one thing to fly across the country, but if you have two or more flights to get to your destination, it can seem like a real drag. Simplify whenever possible. Find a non-stop flight if you can. Pack everything into a carry-on so you don’t have to worry about checked luggage. The less you have to worry about, the more time you’ll have to concentrate on enjoying your trip with your significant other.

Tip #2: Be flexible and willing to change plans. There’s nothing worse than traveling with someone who wants to do everything by a schedule, avoiding all sense of spontaneity and excitement because they set a specific timeframe for every activity three months ago. When you get to your destination, you’ll never be quite sure what you’ll feel like doing, so keep things open and be willing to change plans if your significant other has a spur-of-the-moment inspiration.

Tip #3: Splurge on one part of the trip. If you cut costs by taking a bargain airline and sitting in coach while flying over the sea, then splurge on another area of the trip – your lodgings. Splurging to receive good service at somewhere like a hotel can take away a lot of your traveling worries simply because good hotels will be able to meet so many of your needs without you having to lift a finger – except to call the front desk, of course.

Tip #4: If you’re traveling with other couples, prepare some alone time. It can be great fun to travel with friends and family, but if you’re traveling with other couples, spending all of your time with the same group of people can become…well, a little tiresome. Be willing to go off on your own as a couple for some much-needed alone time and you won’t have to worry about feeling weighed down.

Tip #5: Utilize social media as much as possible. One of the best ways to travel easy is to find tips from your friends – whether you’re using Twitter or Facebook, be willing to ask for advice before you go to a new place. Their tips can save you a lot of unnecessary work. Utilize tools like Kupple.com to find out the experiences of other couples and you’ll be glad you took the time to prepare your trip in advance.
